Fendawood Harold (Ricky) was my novice dog for the end of the 2017 season.
He is a medium sized dog with plenty of drive and a will to please. He is proving a joy to train and is progressing well.
After only a couple of runs in 2017, Ricky began 2018 in winning form; gaining
FIRST PLACE at the Irish Water Spaniel Society's Novice trial on the 4 January.
The trial was a very good quality driven stake with some long testing retrieves towards the end. I was very pleased with his performance and could not have asked more of him.
Ricky enjoyed his first Open Working Test run by the East Midlands Gundog Club in March 2018. He worked very well and was awarded a Certificate of Merit competing against a very strong field.
I was very pleased with Ricky when he attended the England Retriever Selection Day in April 2018 and competed against some top dogs in the country. He did me proud by being selected for the Skinners World Cup, The Game Fair and reserve at the Scottish Game Fair. He is maturing very nicely.
Ricky performed brilliantly at Four Nations International at The Game Fair at Ragley Hall and helped the England Retriever Team to a decisive win!
Ricky was also awarded Top Marking Retriever at The Game Fair in July 2018.
After achieving a couple of awards in Open trials in the 2018 season, Ricky bravely overcame very testing conditions at the Scottish Field Trials association 2 Day Open trial at Bowhill October 2018. The deep gullies and thick bracken cover made the ground hard going but Ricky performed exceptionally well and WON the trial as well as being awarded Guns Choice and Best Marking Dog.
This qualified Ricky for the 2019 I.G.L. Championship at Packington, where he worked very hard and remained until the 2nd day (of 3). but unfortunately did not feature in the final awards. I was very proud of his performance.
Ricky performed exceptionally well at The 2019 Game Fair at Hatfield House where he was Highest Scoring Retriever of the Home International competition between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Ricky had a good start to his 2019 trialling season, being placed 3rd at Essex Gundog Club two day open trial in September. The trial had plenty of game but the scenting conditions were very poor both days so I was very pleased with his performance. Ricky was also awarded 3rd and Guns Choice at the South Western Golden Retriever Clubs Open trial in December.
Ricky then topped off a great end to 2019 by winning North Devon Gundog Club's One Day Open on the 19th December 2019 - MAKING RICKY A FIELD TRIAL CHAMPION. A wonderful Christmas present!
Ricky enjoyed a run out at The Arfon Working Gundog Club Retriever Test in Anglesey in June 2021 to get used to competing again. I was very pleased that he was placed 1st in a good Open Test.

Following a successful trialling and shooting season, I entered Ricky in the Shropshire Gundog Society Open working test in April 2022. I was happy with his performance where he was awarded a goood 2nd place.
We then attending Lancs and Mersey FTS for an Open test on the 1st May
Ricky took 1st Place again against some strong competition.
What a great competition Ricky had as part of the England International Team at Scone Palace in July 2022. England won overall and on one of the toughest game fair courses I have ever run on, Ricky was joint top scoring retriever with Declan Boyle of Ireland. Declan won the run off but I was very pleased with Rocky's performance. For more details on the England Team check here on the website

Ricky worked well during 2023 culminating in him winning Cheshire, North Wales & Shropshire Retriever and Spaniel Society's 2 day Open Stake which qualified him for the 2023 I.G.L. Retriever Championship.
Ricky worked brilliantly for all three days of the competition and was awarded a DIPLOMA OF MERIT.

Details of Ricky's sire which helped me make the decision to use him
'Enjoy' won 12 Open Field Trials and also was 6 times 2nd and 6 times 3rd.
He won 9 Field Trials in Belgium, 6 nationals and 3 internationals and also won a few trials abroad in Europe.
In 2009 as part of the Belgian team the “coupe d’Europe” (the European championships for teams). he won his trial in “the half final”.
2010 was a career highlight, where he won in the I.C.C. in Germany out of 48 dogs. This is the individual European Championship.
On Saturday there were 2 full Field Trials, where he came 2nd and could therefore go to the final Field Trial on Sunday, were he was awarded first place.
In 2011, 'Enjoy' won again with the Belgian team in the Coupe d’Europe in France where he won his trial. Having 5 different seasons wins in Field Trials, he became Belgian & International Field Trial Champion.
